Why materials matter
Materials affect performance, durability, safety, and aesthetics. “Good acoustics” is not only absorption — it’s also predictable behavior over time, clean installation, and compliance where required.
Core options
- Mineral wool / fiberglass: excellent broadband absorption when designed correctly.
- Foams: lighter and convenient, generally more high-frequency focused unless thick.
- Membrane / slat hybrids: can extend effectiveness into lower frequencies.
Finishes and print
The finish must be acoustically transparent. Printed art panels are possible, but you must preserve breathability. Wood slats and decorative facings can be engineered to combine aesthetics with targeted performance.
Mounting hardware
Hardware affects air gap, stability, and safety. For performance, consistent air gaps can be valuable; for installs, repeatable alignment and secure anchoring are critical.
Fire compliance
Many institutional spaces require specific fire ratings for both core and fabric. Always confirm local requirements.
