Do panels soundproof a room?
No. Panels control reflections inside the room (treatment). Soundproofing (isolation) requires construction strategies: mass, decoupling, damping, sealing, and controlling flanking paths.
How many panels do I need?
Enough to control early reflections and shape decay for your goal. A common mistake is buying too few thin panels. For mixing rooms, start with first reflections + cloud + bass trapping, then expand based on measurements.
Is NRC enough to judge a panel?
NRC is a single-number summary (mostly mid frequencies). Ask for full-band absorption coefficients and mounting details.
Where do I place panels first?
Start with first reflections (side walls, ceiling) and bass traps in corners. Rear wall strategy depends on room size.
See Panel Placement.
Do I need diffusers?
Diffusers can be great in larger rooms, especially rear walls, but in small rooms thick absorption often performs better.
Does Atmos need special treatment?
Yes — the height layer and ceiling reflections matter. You want controlled reflections without killing spaciousness, plus consistent timbre across all speakers.
See Dolby Atmos.
