First reflections: the simplest upgrade you can hear immediately

A step-by-step method to find first reflection points and place panels like a professional install.

If you want one upgrade that makes your room instantly feel more ‘expensive,’ treat first reflections. You’ll hear tighter imaging, clearer transients, and a more stable phantom center.

Mirror method (side walls)

  1. Sit in your listening position.
  2. Slide a mirror along the wall.
  3. Mark the point where you see the speaker.
  4. Place a panel centered on that mark.
  5. Repeat on the other side, keeping symmetry.

Ceiling bounce

A ceiling cloud above the listening position controls vertical reflections that often go untreated. If you do side walls but skip the ceiling, you’re leaving performance on the table.

Treating first reflections is like cleaning a lens: the picture was always there — now you can see it.
